Have a Safe Holiday…. FAQ’s

We want you to enjoy a safe and relaxing holiday, below are some important pieces of information that you should know before arriving:

Island Speed Limit – There is an enforceable speed limit across the island of 60kph. We ask all guests to respect this limit to help preserve the safety of yourself, the local wildlife, other holiday makers and the friendly islanders.

Climate – With warm sunny days and little temperature variation throughout the year the climate is easy to plan for. Maximum average temperatures range from 31.4C in December to 25C in July. Minimum temperatures vary between 24.2C in January to 13.6C in July. Having a tropical climate means that the wettest time is during the summer months.

Safe Swimming – Alma Bay is patrolled by lifesavers on the weekends.

Marine Stingers – Swimming in tropical waters between October and April should be done with care. If a sting occurs, do not rub. Pour liberally with vinegar and call an ambulance by dialing 000. Stinger resistant pools are located at Picnic Bay and Horseshoe Bay. Lycra stinger suits are also available for hire or sale in local shops.

Mobile Coverage – There is Telstra coverage across all populated bays. Whilst most networks are available in Nelly Bay, coverage may be patchy across the rest of island.

ATM Locations – Most businesses will accept EFTPOS and credit cards, there is a 24-hour QLD Country Credit Union ATM in Nelly Bay and other locations around the island.

Internet Access – Magnetic Island provides the perfect escape from day to day stresses, however if you do feel the need to check in with reality from time to time there are several points around the island that offer Wi-Fi access.
